The intimate Washington Square Christmas tree, with the Empire State Building watching over it from 26 blocks to the north, is one of my favorite places to show visitors this time of year. Here are a few more treats to help make the season and 2025 merry and bright.

What’s the hurry? The quirky, but lovely, Elizabeth Street Garden in Little Italy is now slated to close for good in February 2025. For years, this sculpture garden has been delighting neighborhood residents and visitors in an area short on green spaces. The City of New York owns the lot it’s on and wants to build affordable housing for seniors there. Litigation has kept the garden open for now, so grab a tea or hot chocolate and enjoy this novel NYC site before it closes for good—unless more law suits keep it open.
